11-10-22: Interest Meeting! We talked with former Chamblee Student Victor Walls who completed his Private Pilot's License while in High School and is majoring in Professional Flight at Purdue University.
11-13-22: Meeting at Peachtree Dekalb Airport(PDK) with Lanier Flight Center. We learned about paths to attain your Pilot's License and looked at the Lanier Flight Center training planes on the Tarmac. The opportunity also presented itself to visit Epps Aviation at PDK and learn about the history of aviation at PDK.
11-17-22: Centennial Aviation came to Chamblee High School and discussed what it is like to become a pilot as well as the training required. In addition, different aviation-related careers were discussed for example the possible opportunity to fly for the Air Force.
1-13-23: The club competed against each other in building and flying planes out of recycled materials. There were two competitions consisting of only paper and then composite recycled materials. Great turnout!
2-3-23: We met with Diya Patel from the Georgia Tech Flying Club. Diya is a first-year student at Georgia Tech who is in the Yellow Jacket Flying Club and is studying Business Administration with a concentration in Marketing and a Spanish minor. She is also a commercial pilot and a CFI/CFII/MEI who instructs at the Dekalb-Peachtree airport. Diya started flying the summer before she was a sophomore in high school and earned all of pilot certificates and ratings while in high school. She is also a member of numerous aviation-related organizations including the AOPA, Women in Aviation, and an international committee chair for the International Ninety-Nines. One day, she hopes to be a captain on a wide body aircraft for United Airlines, flying international legs!
3-18-23: We went to PDK and met with Aero Atlanta Flight Center. We had the amazing opportunity to see Aero Atlanta's Cirrus Fleet which is the world's largest cirrus rental fleet. In addition, we had Q&A with staff.
8-23-23: Interest Meeting!! Mr. Avetts Room 3126 at 3:30. Snacks and trivia included!
10-30-23: Build and Design Competition! Members were given 35 monopoly dollars to collect desired recycled materials from the "bank". Members were then given 45 minutes to construct an airplane to fly the furthest distance.
11-7-23: Meeting with Piedmont Jets and Jet Linx at PDK! The club learned about the buisness model of aircraft brokerages. In addition, we looked at various jets and had Q&A.
3-13-24: Meeting at Aero Atlanta! The club had the opportunity to go out to PDK and meet with Aero Atlanta. We learned about various flight training schools and the benefits of each. We later went down to EPPS to learn about FBOS and the services they provide at an airport.
4-25-24: As we are approaching our final meeting for this year, we have an exciting agenda ahead. We will be providing pizza, introducing our new president, and we will have an amazing opportunity to meet with Dr. Foley. Dr. Foley has previously received the First Annual Epps award for Outstanding achievement in Georgia. Dr. Foley has inspired multiple students, some who have become astronauts, and Pilots. In addition, Dr. Foley has initiated aerospace programs at the Fernbank Science Center, is the founder of the LINKS engineering team, and sponsored the Wild Blue Wonders Team Academy Rocketry Challenge. We are so excited to be hosting Dr. Foley this Thursday (4/25) in Mr. Avett's room 3126!
